Collection: Tatiana Amaral

Tatiana was born in São Paulo, Brazil, and first moved to Australia in 2006. After spending a year in China from 2008 to 2009, she returned to Australia and settled in Perth.

Tatiana's artistic journey began in childhood, using paper from her father's books to create collages. This practice helped her cope with dyslexia, transforming her challenges into a unique visual language. Working with paper became second nature to her; just as a painter uses a brush, Tatiana uses pieces of paper to craft her artwork.

Her Brazilian heritage introduced her to a vibrant palette of intense colours, which she continues to explore in her art. The blending of multiple strong colours brings vibrancy and joy to her pieces, reflecting her cultural roots.

Tatiana studied fine arts at a well-regarded university in São Paulo, providing a solid foundation for her work. Although she paused her art practice after relocating to Australia, she resumed it following a significant life change.

As a single mother raising two children, Tatiana’s daily routines are reflected in her art. Her work features two main styles: rag paper collages and delicate rice paper pieces. The rag paper collages are inspired by coastal and inland landscapes, characterized by dynamic textures and patterns. The rice paper pieces, created with the paper completely wet, have overlapping layers that produce subtle textures and depth, often reflecting bush landscapes with organic colours.

In less than two years, Tatiana has won six art competition prizes in Western Australia. She prefers to showcase her work gradually, focusing on quality and originality rather than commercial production, allowing her to maintain a personal connection to each piece.
