Yallingup Galleries is thrilled to announce a new exhibition, featuring the innovative work of acclaimed artists Roslyn Hamdorf and Shabbi.

This exhibition, focused on the themes of the Western Australian landscape and the enduring beauty of its natural rock formations, opens Saturday, 14th December 2024, at 5 pm, with an evening of wine and grazing platters provided by Vallée du Venom. All are welcome to join us in celebrating this remarkable event.

Roslyn Hamdorf brings her fascination with the WA landscape to life in textured acrylic paintings that reveal the inherent balance, tension, and erosion within nature’s rocky terrain.

Working with acrylic, Roslyn builds up her canvases in dynamic layers that capture the rugged textures of rocks and grains of sand. Through her creative process, which involves using a spatula to apply and sometimes remove paint, she achieves an intricate finish that draws viewers into a close-up experience of place. Roslyn’s art invites viewers to find a sense of location and wonder in each painting, which she describes as “breaking down landscapes into rocks and sand, hoping to evoke a connection to place.”

In perfect harmony, Shabbi’s hand-crafted ceramic sculptures take the WA landscape into the third dimension. With a love for clay that began during a short ceramics course years ago, Shabbi’s sculptural pieces celebrate the region’s natural rock pools, pebbles, and bushland.

Her process involves the use of gritty clay coils, finished with natural and earthy elements like seaweed, copper wire, and salt-laden bandages. Each piece is fired in a saggar or aluminium foil wrapping, resulting in beautifully organic finishes that capture the tactile qualities of Western Australia’s coastal and inland landscapes.

The pairing of Roslyn’s 2D canvases with Shabbi’s 3D forms gives this exhibition a unique duality, inviting visitors to explore the subject of Western Australian landscapes in both painting and sculpture. The shared focus on natural textures and materials presents a seamless conversation between two art forms, each inspired by the landscapes that shape our region.

Visit Yallingup Galleries between the 14th and 22nd of December 2024 to meet two artists whose works capture the geological wonders of Western Australia.

Join us in this celebration of Western Australia’s natural heritage at Yallingup Galleries this December.
