   Checking out the Sculptures
New Work: Christopher Spaven

Christopher received his early art school training at Perth Technical College, where the emphasis was on a good grounding in traditional skills such as life drawing. After qualifying, he has had a successful career as an art director and illustrator as well as managing his own studio.

Christopher's most recent paintings, in the artists own words are a "tribute to sculptors" of Cottesloe Sculptures by the Sea. Fascinated by the form, colour and activity the event attracts, Christopher draws on the painting style of Cubism for its "generative force behind much sculpture".

"As a past designer, I am endeared to the prism of Cubism through which I de-construct images into strong colours and flat planes, adding vibrancy."

   Feature Artist: Keiko Uno
Keiko is a gemologist and jeweller creating her own limited edition jewellery lines. Her aim is to create jewellery that is not only a pleasure to wear, but seductive and emotive; turning the beautiful into the breathtaking, and the glamorous into the glorious.

Keiko's jewellery series called 'Spirit of the Sea' comes from a "desire to capture the essence" of what the ocean means to her. For Keiko the "invigorating and liberating spirit of the sea" are to be understood through the use of sparkling, colourful gemstones, generous metalwork and the eye catching contrast of black rhodium with 18ct yellow gold highlights.

   Feature Artist: Jenni Doherty
With references to fashion and culture Jenni's unique paintings are created through a layering of images and mediums.  Creating a link to a personal landscape, her works inspire a relationship to a time and place.

Jenni's trademark mixed media style specialises in patterns built up with lino block prints, acrylic, gouache, silver or gold leaf, oils, paper and textiles.
